Rona Belford

Belford graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Chemistry. She changed discipline to Electrical Engineering and graduated with a Ph.D. in the field of physical electronics at The University of Edinburgh. A final year prize winner, she also received the International Prize for Innovative Devices from the Society for Hybrid Microelectronics and in was awarded the RSE research scholarship. During her university career she ran an active research group in electronic and optical thin and thick film sensors.
Venturing into the corporate sector in the US she headed a research team developing laser materials which are still in production.
 During 1997-99 she initiated and managed the high performance sister company Belford Research Inc. whilst resident in the US.  After relocating back to the UK she started Belford Research Ltd to carry on the main format as a company seated in exploiting performance materials. Experience in the physical, mechanical and chemical routes to new electronic and optical properties has gained her a reputation in the field and five patents.
